Richard Brown November 23 1966 in the Salt Lake IDS Temple Testimony of the restored gospel of Jews Christ and her strong belief in the power of prayer carried her through the many challenges she faced in life She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where the served in many capacities including faithfully supporting her husband while he served os bishop of the Valley View 6th Ward She especially enjoyed teaching Relief society and teaching with her husband Her service went beyond the circles of the church After returning to school to earn a degree in Psychology she blessed many lives through her counsel and never ending compassion She is wrvived by her daughters Stacey Lynn Nelson (Brent) and Julie Arm Cowley (Dale) son David Richard and Great Depression and World War II teaching them lessons of thrift and industry On March 8 1960 Mary ond Frank were sealed for time and eternity In the Salt Lake LDS Temple and Christ like service played a central role in their lives Mary blessed the lives of countless young women in her ward and stake and in her later years served missions at the Granite Mows- tain Records Vault and Welfare Square with her husband While helping Frank establish his automatic sprinkler business Mary worked for JC Penney but the pride she took in her home and the care stle gave her family become her life legacy In the last decade of her life Mary lost memories and independence but gave her family the to develop the patient kindness she always showed to them Mary is survived by her children Mary special place in her heart for Southern Utah The family moved to Salt Lake City when she was in third grade eventually residing on 12th East She attended Roosevelt Jr High School and East High School class of 1935 She graduated in business from the University of Utah in 1939 She married her sweetheart Rex Austin Skidmore in the Salt Lake Temple August 31 1939 They met on a blind date carefully lined up by friends Knell supported Rex in his career that spanned more than 40 years at the University of Utah Mostly a resident of Salt Lake City she also lived in Philadelphia PennsylVania Logan Utah Miami Florida San Antonio Texas and San Francisco California and traveled around the world She delighted in family time together including backyard and Sunday dinners holiday gatherings vocations and reunions She made by hand many items given as special gifts to family and friends These included needlepoint plastic canvas afghans quilts and various unique projects Knell always put others before herself and was a wonderful and sensitive listener with a caring heart Her cheery personality sweet voice and sunny smile brightened and uplifted others Everyone who knew Knell loved her and she loved everyone She relished her associations with choice friends and neighbors She en-toyed being part of special groups of friends including Dinner Club Emeritus Group Primarians Seventy-fours husband as special representatives in the International Mission in the Holy Land She faithfully fulfilled a variety of callings in Sunday School YWMIA and Relief Society including Hillside Stake YWMIA President and Relief Society President in the Monument Park 3rd Ward She leaves us with her example of faith and her strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ She firmly believed that families are forever She enjoyed the outdoors and the beauties of nature and appreciated both the simple and grand things in life She liked playing temis and racquetball hiking and walking with friends dancing lanzen Johnson The oldest of eight children she started mothering at age two and continued with this avocation all her life At age 17 while at the pea seed factory she dreamed of being a secretory She fulfilled her dream by graduating from IF High completing courses at IDS Business college Weber State College Stevens Henager Business School and later at SLCC She hod a full and rewarding career as a secretary working at the WPA Recruiting Offices US Bu- reau of Mines and Hill Air Force Base After retiring at 65 she went back to work for the Senior Citizens Executive Assoc retiring at age 70 She married Earle Sundstrom on her birthday In 1943 In the Salt Lake LDS Temple She raised his three children and added five more Estrid was true to her LDS heritage She hod a quiet unwavering faith accepted everyone and passed judgement on no one She held many church positions over years taught Sunday School was ward organist and played the piano for the Primary until the age 90 She was the oldest member of the 26th Ward Choir the oldest continuous choir in the entire Church Maybe that is her "15 minutes of fame" Survived by four siblings Ingrid (Lars) Margit Sherwood (Julie) and Grant (Evelyn) sisters-in-law Lucille and Marie children Dick (Vickie) Janice (Phil) Christensen Ron Jaye John Susan and Chris as well as 29 grand 34 great and seven great-great-grandchildren and three on
