How To Make Disneyland Corn Dogs

  1. Heat oil in a large saucepan filled 3/4 full over medium-high heat until oil reaches 350-375 degrees F.
  2. Place the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a large bowl, stir to combine. Stir in egg, milk and melted shortening. Stirring to combine. Pour batter into a tall slender glass, makes for easier dipping of hot dogs.
  3. Place hot dogs through skewers and dip generously into batter, swirling then carefully place into hot oil spinning slowly the entire time in the oil. This helps create an even golden brown color and even cooking. When a deep golden brown color, transfer to a paper towel lined plate to drain some of the oil. Each corn dog took about 2-3 minutes in the frying oil. Serve hot with your favorite condiments.

Find wooden skewers for your dogs and carefully skewer each one. Going slow helps. When I make these again, instead of using the cheese sticks in this photo, I’ll buy my own block of cheddar cheese and cut bigger pieces. These were too small in my opinion.

Where Do I Find Skewers?

Find wooden skewers at some grocery stores and places like Target or Walmart in the grilling section.
