  • Deep-Fried Brie Cheese Dumplings Recipe | Marion's Kitchen (9)

For the candied chilli, place the sugar, cinnamon stick, whole star anise and 1 cup of water into a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for a few minutes until the sugar dissolves. Next, add the chopped chilli and continue to simmer for 15 minutes.

  • Deep-Fried Brie Cheese Dumplings Recipe | Marion's Kitchen (10)

Remove chillies with a slotted spoon (reserve the flavoured sugar syrup) and transfer to a baking tray lined with baking paper. Spread the chillies out evenly. Cook in the preheated oven for 1 hour or until crispy.

  • Deep-Fried Brie Cheese Dumplings Recipe | Marion's Kitchen (11)

To make the dumplings, place a small cube of brie into the centre of each wonton wrapper. Fold the wrapper around the brie and squeeze to form a purse/money bag shape.

  • Deep-Fried Brie Cheese Dumplings Recipe | Marion's Kitchen (12)

Fill a saucepan or wok to about one-third capacity with the vegetable oil. Heat over high heat. The oil is hot enough at 180°C (350°F) or when a wooden spoon dipped into the oil forms small bubbles.

  • Deep-Fried Brie Cheese Dumplings Recipe | Marion's Kitchen (13)

In batches, cook the brie dumplings in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towel. Serve scatter with the candied chilli and with the sweet chilli sauce on the side.

How to best fry dumplings? ›

In a large, non-stick pan, heat 1-2 tbsp. of oil over medium heat. Place the dumplings in the pan and fry on both sides until golden brown (you will need to do this in batches). Once golden brown, add a few tablespoons of water and cover with a lid to steam for about 3-5 minutes until the pork is cooked through.

What is deep fried brie made of? ›

You simply coat the brie in a bit of egg, press some Panko breadcrumbs into it, then fry it in some Golden Barrel Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A few minutes later, and you have a warm, gooey cheese appetizer that's both delicious and impressive to serve to friends and family.

What is the best oil to fry dumplings in? ›

The panfrying method starts with lightly frying dumplings in a generous splash of neutral oil, like canola or vegetable, then finishes the cooking process by creating intense steam from pouring liquid into the hot pan. Start by adding 1 or 2 tablespoons of neutral oil to a nonstick pan over medium-high heat.

How do I get my dumplings crispy? ›

If you want to get similar results at home, there are only two tricks you really need. First is to add a bit of extra starch to your dumplings. Dust them with cornstarch, shaking off the excess before the initial fry. Second is to use a non-stick skillet, or an extremely well-seasoned cast iron pan.

What type of cheese is Brie? ›

Brie, soft-ripened cow's-milk cheese named for the district in northeastern France in which it is made. The preliminary soft curd of Brie is molded in flat, pancakelike rounds 9–15 inches (23–38 cm) in diameter and 1–1.5 inches (2.5–3.8 cm) in thickness.

What do they coat Brie cheese with? ›

The cheese is encased with a firm white rind on the outside. The rind is, in fact, a white mold called Penicillium candidum, which cheesemakers inoculate the cheese with. This edible mold blooms on the outside of the paste and is then patted down, over and over again, to form the rind.

What are the two types of Brie? ›

Indeed, although brie is a French cheese, it is possible to obtain Somerset and Wisconsin brie. The French government officially certifies only two types of brie, Brie de Meaux and Brie de Melun. Some varieties of brie cheese are smoked.
